Hi is there a way to keep foldername as they were and only rename files inside the folder? I wan to keep my folder name as it is today but rename the actual files. This is so I can keep info in folder names for subtitles.

Thanks for a great app!

I presume this is for Movie Mode?
Right now, there isn't this option.

I handled this by having the option 'Keep Original Filename' (in Global Settings).
You can keep all the original filename, or type in the filter words you want to keep.
Only 1 word is kept (priority is from left to right).

If filter words are blank, then everything should be kept.
If you type a list of words like "DVDrip" "DivX" "HTDV" "DVDSCR", theRenamer just keeps the first word it finds.

Hi thanks for the fast reply. Sometimes the original filenames are cryptic, Folder name matches (subtitle search) better, And I could set my scraper to parse from filename instead of folder. Do you think I should make a feature request for this? if it might be implemented. I dont have english as my native language and more or less always use subtitles. I think there are more than me that would love this option.

Keep foldername and scrape from renamed movie files.

In Movie Mode, the 'Keep Original Filename' is actually using the Folder name.
(cause in Movie Mode uses Folder names by default. Sorry, now that you mentioned it... never realize this before).

Try creating new folder and blank txt files. Just rename the folder and blank txt files to be the exact same as your real movie folder.
You can test this dummy folder/files with theRenamer.

Files don't have to be valid video/srt files, theRenamer doesn't care.

Hi ok, will this also rename nfo files to the same name as the folder previously had? I still think it would be great to only rename the files and leave the folder alone. Then I can choose file so its easily picked up and the same name as the nfo. plus keep the dir name so I can find subtitles.

Keeping old foldername is weird. The point of this app is to rename/organize them nicely.
In the next build, nfo files follow the filename. This is for some app to match the nfo to the video file.

Sorry.

Hi keeping foldername as they were before renaming is not weird imo, It's for finding subtitles etc for a later date. I have each movie in a uniqe folder and inside the folder is an nfo and a renamed movie file (with therenamer) what I would like is to be able to keep the foldername (which always have the movie name in it, in contrast to filename of the movie) and only rename the files inside the folder. Scene releases is really hard to match with subtitles otherwise so I'm guessing alot of people are having issues using software like therenamer etc as it make is really hard to know which subtitle to download.

Can you post an example how your Folder\file structure is like?

thequestion: Got your email.

Original:
c:\The.Social.Network.720p.BluRay.x264-METiS\m-social-720p.mkv

If after renaming, it becomes:
c:\The Social Network\The Social Network (720p.BluRay.x264-METiS).mkv
or
c:\The Social Network (720p.BluRay.x264-METiS)\The Social Network (720p.BluRay.x264-METiS).mkv

Won't you still be able to know how to find the subtitles later?

For the posting error, try not using the funny characters.
