I don't know if this is even possible using IMDB or TV.com, but I know the TVDB API allows for matching shows with original air date. This makes it possible to match things like "The Daily Show" or "The Colbert Report" where the shows are named by date, and downloaded as:
"The.Daily.Show.03.31.2009.PDTV.XviD-iHT.[VTV].avi"
ShowName.month.day.year.blahblahblah.ext

I know you scrapped you TVDB attempt, but do you think its possible using tv.com?

Sample tv.com info for a "The Daily Show" episode:
Quote:
Season 14, Episode 35 – Aired: 3/11/2009
Paul Rudd

Segments:
- Jon talks about Jim Cramer who is coming on the show tomorrow to face Jon in the ultimate hyped and manufactured media showdown
- Republicans gripe about the earmarks in Obama's budget which takes up less than two percent of Obama's spending bill

Guests:
Actor Paul Rudd talks about his new movie I Love You Man

TV.com and IMDb does show the Original Air Date.

I can put it in, but I'm not sure if it's a useful feature.
I just like to keep the exe as small as possible.
Also, for me, I like to rename it to as short name as I can.

Let see if other people need it too.

It could rename to the actual season, episode format just like anything else. In fact, I'd prefer that. There just isn't that info in the original file name to match it that way.

I'm not sure what you have set to be the final name after renaming, but in the Settings, you can set the final name to show Actual Season with Episode, followed by the episode title. It's all in the Settings.

The final renamed filename can be : Lost.1x1.Pilot.avi
In the Settings (top right button), you have the option to turn ON/OFF any of the 3 key types (Showname,Season,Episode Title).

When you check the button (a tick will appear), that mean it is set to be ON (Show).
When you uncheck the button (the tick will disappear), that means it is set to be OFF (Hide)
A preview also shows an example how the end result will look like.

This page shows screenshots of theRenamer. http://www.therenamer.com/screenshots.html
Are you seeing the same thing when u launch theRenamer?

No, no, no. That is not what I am saying. The renaming is working GREAT now. What I am saying is that the file in the fetch folder is not named in such a way that you can derive the season and episode numbers from it. You can only derive the air date from the filename, as shown in my OP. If you can match it by air date, then you can get the Season and Episode numbers from the website and rename the file properly.

I was just referring to this statement and saying the file can be renamed just like everything else. It doesn't need to be renamed with the date in it.

I see what u mean.
Is there a "standard" naming structure for dates in the filename.

would be: 2 digits + "." + 2 digit + "." + 4 digits

the possiblities could be

03-31-09 (or different seperator)
or
Mar.31.2009 (or in different languages)

I don't know. I never come across such naming.
Unless there's a standard naming for dates, I can't scan it.

Anyways, show like these which don't have a season or episode are mostly talk shows. Which doesn't contain any episode titles.
At least that's what I think so...

Actually they do have episode titles on TV.com

I think the standard format is as I posted earlier:
Month.Day.Year

Although in Europe I think the standard is:
Day.Month.Year

This would make it quite difficult, but I haven't seen any like this so far.

I guess the separator could be a dash, but I have only seen a dot. You can usually tell its a date because it 2 digits, 2 digits, then 4 digits. I don't think I have ever seen the month spelled out as there could be language issues with that.

ok, lets see if there's other people who request this.
Because there's other things involved, like converting the dates from IMDb and TV.com
They both use different date formats to indicate the Air Date.

Okay, fair enough. Do you got a thread for feature requests polls?

I would like a dated format import as well. I am really pleased with the automated rename and remove. The only problem is that after all is said and done my D/L folder has some leftovers. Here are the current leftovers...
